Changing the battery in Apple's device tracker takes just a few seconds.

With normal use, the user-replaceable battery in Apple’s AirTag is designed to last for around a year.

When the cell is depleted, we’ll show you to simple steps on how to change your AirTag battery and get back to using the device tracker.

There’s no need to worry about the AirTag’s battery depleting without you knowing. It’s easy to check your AirTag’s battery life via the Find My app.

You will also receive a notification from the app when an AirTag’s battery is low and needs to be changed.

Before you begin, note that the AirTag, battery cover, and battery are choking hazards so make sure to keep them away from small children.

To start, place the AirTag’s white side down on a flat surface where the stainless steel battery cover is visible.

Press down on the battery cover and rotate it counterclockwise until it stops rotating. Then remove both the cover and battery.

You’ll need to replace it with a fresh CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery available. These batteries are widely available at many stores and online.

Before shopping, note that Apple says any CR2032 with bitterant coating might not work with an AirTag. So it’s best to avoid those when looking for a replacement battery.

Place the battery in the AirTag with the positive side up. You should hear a quick noise confirming that the battery is placed in the AirTag correctly.

After hearing that, replace the battery cover and confirm that the three tabs on the battery cover are lined up with the three slots on the AirTag. Then rotate the battery cover clockwise until it stops.

Now that your tracker is sporting a new battery, find out how to make an AirTag more useful.

Changing your Apple AirTag battery just takes a few minutes. Hopefully these steps have shown you how to get the tracker back up and running so you can use it to find where almost anything is located.
